Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioner constantly to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC service technician to visit your home and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the space around your A/C to get rid of branches and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the system and prune back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Golden Seal Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your seasonal tune-up as part of your scheduled A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s suggested that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could even damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. These window coverings may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your air conditioner isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A seasonal AC tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Golden Seal Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
