What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Golden Seal Service Experts in Saint Charles always writes about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Golden Seal Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Golden Seal Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
