Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Golden Seal Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Golden Seal Service Experts a call at 630-246-2698 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
