Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last few weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than turning in at night just to find out your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Golden Seal Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Golden Seal Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 630-246-2698 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
